Laser Cataract Patient Education
Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery
While traditional cataract surgery is performed using handheld metal or diamond blades, refractive laser-assisted cataract surgery utilizes the precise and predictable femtosecond laser to perform surgical steps that were previously performed manually.
Compared to the manual technique, laser-assisted cataract surgery performed with the femtosecond technology is the model of precision and predictability.
At nJoy vision, we’re proud to offer access to this level of precision and care to our cataract surgery patients.
During the procedure, your surgeon will use the laser to create a circular opening for accessing and removing the cataract. Clinical studies have shown that this opening is approximately 10 times more accurate when performed with the laser than what is achieved by hand, resulting in a more predictable outcome. The laser then softens and breaks up the hard cataract into tiny pieces, allowing for gentler, easier cataract removal. View Video
Depending on your pre-operative vision and desired visual result, your doctor may recommend a tailored treatment plan that could include creating ultra-precise laser incisions in the cornea and one of several vision correction options. This customized treatment may reduce your need for glasses or contact lenses after surgery.
